The cherry represents your mortality, that it, unless you can catch it in time to save yourself from choking on certain death and live to serve another day.  In a shot glass place one cherry (with stem to increase your chances of catching it in time to not choke), fill to half way up the cherry with grenadine, then the rest of the way with whatever you have that cheap and close at hand, you don’t have time to be picky!
